Sales Executive
I've been applying for a full-time job positions online. I just keep on clicking the "Apply" button or submit my resume when requested. Though jobs like clinical position, administrative work and etc are not my cup of tea, I just try my luck by clicking "Apply". However, I wish to work as an education industry. Been applying several positions such as Asst. Teacher, Allied Educators, educators for disabled and so on.. but till now, none of them replied.
However, I received a call last week regarding a job I applied in one of the job portal. I have no idea what job it is. But I gave it a try and went for an interview the next day after the call.
The job position I "ter-apply" was as Sales Executive. The term used sounds like a very high post. I was told to were formal on the interview. I wasn't prepared at all and my heart ain't racing. Without confident, I went into a interview room. It is such a micracle that I talk like someone who really have passion for this job (actually I'm not).
I am fortunate to be the short-listed candidate for 2nd interview. Which is today. I just go ahead and did not expect much. I did not prepare anything. They told me to wear formal once again. Instead, this time, I wore casual formal.
To my surprise, the 2nd interview was totally different than the 1st one. I and the other two new short-listed candidates was introduced by other collegues - the manager, the trainer, the trainee and etc. Everyone in that room made me feel welcome. They shared their personal experience and we played games.
And yeah, I got a hangboa. How great was that. Everyone were so socialable. After the ice-breaking session, I head down to Pasir Rish with my team members. Okay.. now I will tell you what Sales Executive job scope is. I work for Standard Chartered bank, persuading passer-by to apply for the cerdit card. Sounds familiar? I am sure you guys seen this scene in interchanges, outside shopping mall and so on.
Overcoming the fear
This time, I wish I was dreaming. I wasn't prepared at all. However, with the great team members support, I get at least one applicant in less than 2 hours. It was tough, i got over my nerves and my fear of approaching strangers.
I am the only tudung staff in the company and when I saw some makciks and pakciks saw me promoting credit cards, weird expression paints on their face. I am aware that in Islam, we are not allowed to used interest. You know credit cards have interest, only if you don't pay the full amount on time. I believe we all have brains to think how to take advantage of the credit cards wisely.
Thus, I do not wish to care what others might think. I am just promoting the credit card and it is up to the users to decide how to use it to their own advantage. If they misuse, it's none of my business. At the end of the day, I got this job. And today, and I fully prepared for this job.
Chosen career
The reason why I chose this career is because of the team. They are willing to share, to support when you failed. There's some we all will have fun and joke around, but when working hours, we stay focus but still have fun. 2nd is because my personal growth. I wish to boost up my self-esteem, my fear of what other might think, improve my communication skills and prove to all the people out there, that this job is NOT FOR LOSER.
Surprisingly, most of my cellogues are O level holders, only a number of them are diploma or degree graduates. However, they become successful now, some of them are already in a manager position - with N/O level cert earning up to 3k/month. It's the talking that counts in the real career prospects.
As I've planned, after this sales job, I wish to apply for a teaching post - when I am satisfied when my communication skills.
Most people read Robert T.Kiyosaki books, but they don't walk their talk. And I do not want to be one of them.
Regards,
Rohani
