Cats & Dogs

Assalamualaikum...

Ever since I started watching Dog Whisperer on Starhub TV channel, I began to understand more about dogs & their behavior. This guy, Cesar Millian does not train dogs but train human to rehabilitate dogs. Before I was chased by a Jack Rusell dog when I was 8 years old, I was never ever afraid of it. I even touch dogs - big or small. Yeah, yeah, I know Muslim has to be careful in handling dogs but you know, as a kid I always love all animals and curious about it. But once I got chased by that Jack Rusell, I became very fearful. I got chased by it around the whole neighbourhood till my slipper slip off. And guess who stop that dog? It was my cat. Haha..! With just one hiss, the dog stop chasing me. Up till now, whenever I see a dog, even further away, I can feel my heart accelerate.

However, after watching Dog Whisperer, I will try my best to overcome my fear of dogs. Dogs aren't that bad and fierce afterall. One thing that I like in the above video is when Cesar Millian said that does not judge the owner by it's cover but human tend to judge the dog by it's breed. It's definitely true. He explain that all breed are the same, it's how you handle them makes them different. Human always prefer pets that has great fur, cute round eyes, long bushy tails and etc. But pets does not care if you are disfigure or ugly. When I visited the SPCA, this worker said to us, "You know it is sad that people always adopt the good looking dogs, while the ugly one are hard to get adopted even though they are well-behaved. Life is unfair for animals too..." :'(

Like cats, most people said black cats are a sign of bad luck. For me, this is bullsh*t.  Black, white, brown, colorful or rainbow cat are all the same. I've been living my life surrounded by cats since 6 years old. There's something about cats are enlightens me, looking at them is enough to make my day. My mum does not allow us to keep any pet in the house but of course, we were defiance. We will sometimes hide the cat in the room or when mum it is not home, we will let it roam around the house.

Since young, I've seen cat died terribly - we rescued a black kitten who were in a hit and run accident. We knew everyone who alighted from the bus saw that kitten lying on the road asking for help but no one seems to bother. My dad decided to take that injured kitten to our house. Back then, there weren't a lot of vets in Singapore and there's none in our neighbourhood. Besides, our family just knew that even though we send it to the vet, he's gonna die because he pukes blood and could barely walk. The following day it died in my house, peacefully. Another incident, I saw a kitten getting murdered by a pack of large dogs. The dogs pass the kitten who we name Shadow (we name it because we always played with it under our void deck) from one to another. We managed to shoo away the dogs but the kitten was so badly injured - the intestine illiterately come out from its stomach. It died few minutes after it saw us. I wanna cry typing this...:'(

On a happy mode, we have kept a kaki-tempang cat before & saw number of cats giving birth countless of time. As we grew up, we just know that the cat is pregnant, around when the cat is giving birth, what to do to prepare for labour... etc. And believe me, cat tend to get very moody easily when they are pregnant; just like human. We stopped taking care of stray cats when I was 16 years old. It was due to neighbour complaints that our cats poop and pee anywhere and everywhere. We were given warning letters. Because it is a stray cat, of course we can't stop it from doing business that the grass -_-

We knew that we could not keep a stray cat anymore. We cannot control a stray cat from it's natural behaviour to always hunt and be outstide from the house most of the time. Thus, 2 years later, we bought a domestic kitten - named Abang. Along with him, we got Putri for FREEEEE!!! Haha. We bought a kitten because it's easy to train from young. And although Putri is a stray cat, she has totally different personality from the stray. She's excatly like a domestic cat - loves to stay in the house and afraid to stray outside.

They have been with us since kitten and now they are adults - 6.5 years old!! Their look like an adult cat but their soul remains like a kitten. Very playful and manja! I couldn't ask for more. They are purrrrfecttt....

I do believe that my life are mend to be surrounded by animals. Besides cat, we've kept a bird, turtle, rabbit, a chick & fishes before. Irwan has never had a pet in his life and he claims that he does not want any pet when we settle down. But I told him, I got a feeling that if we have kids, they will definitely ask for a pet. :p

Animals has such a great soul. They can really make a difference in our lives. I absolutely hate people abusing animals especially pets. These abusers are not worth living at all. I really have phobia looking at video or pictures of them being abused. :'(

So... Be kind to every animals, no matter how big or small they are, how beautiful or ugly they are, whatever breed they are.. because they will always accept us as who we are.
